Reflection

I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in August. I am feeling better after taking an antibiotic; however, I have not fully recovered. I am trying to find the right doctor to help me.

I have become discouraged. I realize that, at least for now, I cannot lead Scripture Walk in the way that I originally envisioned.

Just as I was reaching rock bottom, a wonderful thing happened.

I saw a magnificent sunrise.

Visible beams of sunlight, called crepuscular rays, streamed through gaps in the clouds behind a grove of trees. Atmospheric particles of dust and water made the light beams visible while shadows created bands of pink and blue.

Some people call these “God Rays” where the sunbeams are seen, but the sun is hidden.   Seeing this connection between earth and sky symbolizes my hope that I can break through these difficult times with the help of God.

I am beginning to think of Scripture Walk as a biblical metaphor instead of just a literal walk.

Scripture Walk is not simply a walk that begins and ends. It is a way of moving through life - mindfully, faithfully, and continually shaped by God's Word.

In the next month, the Scripture Walk team and I will begin brainstorming ways that we can celebrate the wonder of nature in multiple ways while still inspiring a deep commitment to caring for the earth as God’s faithful stewards.
